Crispy, tender, and restaurant-style ribs made in the air fryer. A modern twist on a classic with sweet and smoky flavors that will satisfy any meat lover in under 2 hours.
6-8 baby back ribs
1 tbsp brown sugar (packed)
1 tbsp white granulated sugar
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade, halal-compliant)
1 tbsp apple juice or water (optional, for glaze)
Prep the ribs by removing the membrane from the back. Trim into 2- to 3-bone portions.
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, white sugar, smoked paprika, sea salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Evenly apply the rub to all sides of the ribs. Let marinate for 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature.
Place ribs in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overlapping. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, brush both sides generously with BBQ sauce. Return to the air fryer and cook for another 10–12 minutes, until the ribs are blistered and slightly charred.
For a glossy finish, mix BBQ sauce with apple juice (or water) to make a glaze. Brush it onto the ribs in the last 2–3 minutes of cooking.
Let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before serving.
For extra crispy results, use a wire rack inside the air fryer basket to ensure even airflow.
If your ribs are particularly meaty, you may need to cook an additional 5 minutes in the final stage.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes.
