Old Fashioned tuna casserole is a classic comfort food made with canned tuna, noodles, and a creamy sauce, topped with buttery Ritz crackers. Ready in 30 minutes, it’s a perfect dish for busy weeknights or potluck gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Casserole:

  • 3 cups dry egg noodles (about 4 cups cooked)

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 1 cup diced onions

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can low sodium cream of mushroom soup (or cream of celery)

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 can tuna, drained

  • 2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas

For the Topping:

  • 1 sleeve Ritz crackers, crushed

  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

1. Cook egg noodles 1 minute shy of al dente, drain and set aside.

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

3. In a small bowl, combine crushed Ritz crackers, parmesan cheese, and melted butter. Mix until combined and set aside.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together soup, mayonnaise, and milk. Set aside.

5. In a 12-inch oven-safe skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter. Add celery and onions and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

6. Remove skillet from heat. Add soup mixture, drained tuna, shredded cheese, cooked pasta, and peas. Mix until well combined.

7. Sprinkle the cracker mixture evenly over the top.

8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

9. Serve immediately.

Notes

Be sure to cook the noodles al dente because they’ll continue cooking in the oven.

Feel free to swap in your favorite vegetables or use canned chicken instead of tuna.

If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer everything to a 9×13 casserole dish before baking.

Crushed potato chips can be used in place of crackers for a different crunch.
