Transform your dinner into a comforting feast with this Easy Hamburger Potato Casserole. This dish combines the heartiness of ground beef, the creaminess of mushroom soup, and the satisfying crunch of baked potatoes, all topped with melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned and crumbly, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off the excess grease and set aside.

3. In a medium bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, chopped onion, salt, and pepper.

4. In a 2-quart baking dish, create alternating layers of thinly sliced potatoes, the soup mixture, and the browned ground beef.

5. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake until the potatoes are tender, which should take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

6. Sprinkle the shredded Cheddar cheese over the top and return to the oven. Continue baking just until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.

Notes

You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cream of chicken for a flavor variation.

For added crunch, sprinkle crushed butter crackers or fried onions over the cheese before the final bake.

Let the casserole sit for 10 minutes after baking for easier slicing.

This dish reheats well and is great for leftovers the next day.
