This Easy Crispy Baked Chicken Parmesan is a quick and delicious weeknight dinner! Made with golden-baked chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melty mozzarella, it’s a healthier take on the Italian classic that doesn’t skimp on flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (or a mix of dried basil, oregano, and thyme)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. In a shallow dish, mix the Italian-style breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

3. In another shallow dish, beat the eggs well.

4. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.

5. Dip each chicken breast into the beaten eggs, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing to ensure the coating sticks.

6. Place the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle each piece with olive oil or melted butter.

7. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.

8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and spoon marinara sauce over each piece of chicken.

9. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the sauce.

10. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

11. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley, if desired, and serve hot with pasta, salad, or your favorite sides.

Notes

For extra crispiness, use a wire rack on the baking sheet.

Use your favorite marinara sauce for personalized flavor.

Flattening the chicken helps it cook more evenly and quickly.
