Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole is a hearty and comforting baked dish that layers seasoned ground beef, tender potato slices, and gooey melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for a filling family dinner or potluck favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked. Add onions and garlic, sauté until softened. Drain excess fat and stir in salt, pepper, and paprika.

3. Toss the sliced potatoes with milk and sour cream until evenly coated.

4. Spread half of the potato mixture in the prepared baking dish. Add the beef mixture over the potatoes, then layer the remaining potatoes on top.

5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

6. Bake uncovered for 60–70 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly. If browning too quickly, cover loosely with foil.

7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.

Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a healthier option.

For extra flavor, add a splash of broth or red wine when cooking the beef.

Great for meal prep—this casserole freezes well.
