  • 1 large baguette or ciabatta loaf, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze for drizzling (optional)
  • Extra basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes.

3. Place bread cut-side up on the baking sheet and spread the garlic butter evenly over both halves.

4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly golden and crisp.

5. Remove from oven and top with mozzarella cheese.

6. Add sliced tomatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

7. Return to oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. Optional: Broil for 1 to 2 minutes for a golden top, watching closely.

9. Remove from oven and top with fresh basil leaves.

10. Drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

Use fresh mozzarella for a more authentic Caprese flavor.

Keep a close eye when broiling to prevent burning.

You can substitute ciabatta or French bread based on preference.
